fave youtubers, MAKEUP COLLECTION & moody music // Faves #12

Hey!

It’s the end of March, and today I’m offering you a mixture between my monthly favourites (including my current fave YouTubers) and an updated makeup collection! I enjoy mixing many topics in one post as I feel like I’m offering you much more entertainment and information. If you have any suggestions for future favourites posts, let them be known in the comments section below.

I’m hoping to get back into the social media game, so if you’d like to see any of my future posts, follow me on Instagram @xocaligo!

โœจ my makeup collection 2021 โœจ

Recently I went through my makeup collection to see if there are any products I could get rid of, and to optimize the way my makeup is stored. One of my readers requested an updated makeup collection and I thought it’d make a nice addition to this post, considering I don’t have any new beauty faves to share with y’all today!

I shared the previous makeup collection post last February, though little has changed in terms of what products I own or how I store them. I still use the same MOPPE style drawers, except now I think of them as a guideline for the size of my collection; if there’s no space in the drawers for a new product, I need to get rid of one of the old products to make room for it. (Truth be told, sometimes I find it difficult to get rid of products as I think I might need them later on, even if I’ve barely used them in years. Can you relate to this problem?)

โ€ข eye products โ€ข

For me, eyeshadow palettes are difficult to declutter as I love them all! I see so much potential whenever I look at palettes, though admittedly, I don’t use them as often as I should. As for other eye makeup products, I really don’t have many of them and I can easily use up the ones I have.

I got rid of 9 products from this category, but I still have 13 eyeshadow palettes and 24 other eye and brow products. This year I’m not looking to add any new products to this category; the only new arrivals will be any gifts I might receive, and replacement mascaras.

โ€ข lip products โ€ข

I used to be obsessed with lip products, but I started using them less when I got better at doing eyeshadow. Because of that, many of the products were very old and I was able to declutter many of the various lipsticks, glosses, and lip balms I had collected throughout the years!

In total, I got rid of 8 lippies, and I kept the products I could use throughout the upcoming seasons. Lately I’ve enjoyed wearing lipsticks when staying home or going out for walks, so I’m hoping to use up some of them soon!

โ€ข face products โ€ข

I don’t have a huge amount of face base products, though I have quite a few blushes and highlighters. The problem is, I’ve grown to love blushes and highlighters too much, so I couldn’t get rid of many!

I was able to declutter 2 bulky products, which is perfect as I now have more free space in the drawers. This year I’m open to getting a few new face base products like powder, primer, and maybe a new foundation too!

โ€ข products I decluttered โ€ข

I offered some of the powder products to my mum and she gladly accepted them, however, most of the other things were too old to be used by anyone.

I despise the size and shape of the eyeshadow pans in the Essence Be An Original palette, so I depotted the shades in some of the palettes I’m keeping. The eyeshadows have a rather creamy formula, so I didn’t even need to use any alcoholic liquid to press them into the new pans!

โœจ entertainment faves & my fave youtubers โœจ

I didn’t watch any movies, and the only TV show I viewed was The Crown.

I recently finished the fourth season and I can’t wait for the next one! The show is based on real events that happened around and within the British Royal family over the past hundred years. I didn’t know much about their family or British history before watching the series, however, after watching a few episodes, I was hooked. I definitely recommend this show to anyone who likes political intrigues and period dramas!

This month I wanted to share some of my recent fave YouTubers!

For the past couple of months I’ve loved several channels that combine beauty, lifestyle, and vlog content. I really like Trixie Mattel‘s videos that he releases on his channel, as well as the UNHhhh and I Like To Watch series Trixie does with his friend, Katya. The shows are filled with witty banter, popculture references, sexual jokes and general positivity that instantly lifts my mood!

A few channels I’ve followed since I was a teenager are Jessica Braun and RemLife. They both share beauty and lifestyle content, though Jessica’s videos focus on makeup reviews and Remi usually shares vlogs of her everyday life.

In the last year I’ve followed jnaydaily, morgans vlogs and Laura Melhuish-Sprague; all of them post vlogs about their lives, but they are focused around different topics. Janea posts lots of positive self-improvement and lifestyle content, Morgan shares vlogs about her everyday life as she tries to figure out her life, and Laura shows us her home renovation process with some fashion and beauty bits sprinkled in-between.

A few of the vloggers I’ve found quite recently are XO, MaCenna and Beatrice Caruso. Both of them have recently purchased fixer-upper homes, and while MaCenna mostly shares the renovation process and vlogs on her vlog channel, Beatrice focuses on her weight loss journey. I recommend checking out both of their channels!

A handful of entertainment and opinion-oriented channels I wanted to share are Daily Dose Of Internet, Nuke’s Top 5 andย ์ด์›ƒ์ง‘์ˆ˜๋‹ฌ Otterโ€™s Home. Daily Dose collects videos from the Internet and combines them into fun, short videos you can enjoy regardless of who is around you, while Nuke offers compilations of spooky things caught on camera. Otter’s home is a channel that shares adorable videos of their otters; recently one of them gave birth and trust me, you’re not prepared to see the cuteness overload that is their baby!

Last, but not least, the final bunch of channels create similar content, sharing their thoughts on articles and videos online, as well as movie reviews, video essays and other fun things to watch before bed. The channels in question are Ready To Glare, D’Angelo Wallace, Sam Collins, Mista GG, Cody Ko and Noel Miller.

During March I read almost five books, which is a personal record of mine.

I read the last two books from The Mortal Instruments series, City of Lost Souls and City of Heavenly Fire, as well as The Shadowhunter’s Codex, all of which were written by Cassandra Clare. (The codex has co-authors, but as far as I know, she was the main one.) I also finished George Orwell’s 1984, and got halfway through Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. I’ll share more about my March reads in the next challenge update, which is coming next week!

How many books have you read this month? Do you have any reading recommendations?

Lately I’ve loved moody songs, and I have some song/artist recommendations.

Recently I’ve loved music by the oh-so-popular Billie Eilish, and my favourite songs currently are Bellyache, No Time to Die and Therefore I Am. Another artist I’ve loved for years is The Neighbourhood, which is an American alt-rock band. I used to listen to them a lot in 2018 and 2019, and I recently got back into their music; my favourite songs right now are Wires, Honest, Jealousy, and Flawless. I really recommend their music for everyone who likes poprock and pretty deep lyrics!

โœจ my plans for Aprilโœจ

The first thing I’ll continue working on is my shop and blog, though I’d also love to get back into posting on social media.

A while ago I stopped posting on Instagram because I could feel it having a toll on my mental health. Now that some time has passed, I feel like my mindset has changed enough for me to get back on Instagram without any feelings of negativity. I have yet to decide on the theme, though I’ve decided to post anything I want, from random photos on my camera roll to makeup looks to quick product reviews and delicious recipes.

As for my blog, I want to post new blogposts every Wednesday and Saturday, and maybe some extra content on random days, too. I have some ideas planned for the upcoming two weeks but I’m always open for post suggestions!

Last, but not least, my shop plans! Things slowed down in the last weeks of March as I felt a little unwell, but I’m feeling better now and I hope to open my shop some time this month. ๐Ÿ™‚

The second thing I want to do during April is cook healthy lunches/dinners every day.ย

I used to cook every day, sometimes multiple times a day, but then I stopped. The process of cooking healthy meals (and the clean-up that follows afterwards) requires a lot of time and energy, which I often didn’t have. In the recent months I’ve felt a need for at least one homemade meal a day to feel more energized and happy, so I want to try cooking more often. If any of the concoctions I create turn out good, I’ll share its recipe on my blog as well!

The last thing I want to incorporate in my life during April is spending more time outdoors.

Spending most of my time at home and only going out to walk my dog and get groceries is not good for my brain, that’s for sure. So, I want to start a tradition of going out in nature at least once a week, that way I have something to look forward to and get much-needed change in everyday routine. I already have planned an outing at the zoo or a different park than the one I always go to, and I’m very excited about it!

#QOTD: What other segment would you like to see in the next favourites? Did you enjoy having a look at my makeup collection? Leave your thoughts below, I’d love to hear from you!

Until later,

  1. I really like your make up flatlay photoes, they look great!

Also, it’s nice to see how many of your products are obviously used. I can never understand it when beauty gurus show like 20 products, saying that they are their favorites and they are all barely touched. That’s more like a first impression, while if you give a review about a blush or whatever that has pan in it, I’m more inclined to trust it, because you have actually used it.

I have also tallied up my numbers (did a big declutter at the end of last year/beginning of this one and now it is literally the perfect collection for me) and I hope you don’t mind if I share them with you, but none of my female relatives or friends are interested in make up. It’s nice to chat with someone about it ๐Ÿ˜Š

I’m doing quite well in most categories: I have 1 Face powder, 1 mascara, 1 bullet lipstick and 1 liquid lipstick.

2 highlighters, 4 bronzers and 4 single eyeshadows. My eyeshadow palette number is the same as yours, 13.

My “problem area” is my blush collection. I have 26 blushes, which is a lot, but I love all of them and I haven’t purchased a new one in a long time. My goal is to use up some, and get the number down to 20. I used up a full-sized one last year.

In this year’s Project Pan I’m panning the liquid lipstick, 1 bronzer and 2 blushes (a Catrice Defining blush and a Clinique Cheek Pop)

    • Ughh, flatlay photos always give me a headache as I never feel like I do them well enough, so it’s always nice to hear that someone likes them! ๐Ÿ˜€
I absolutely don’t mind chatting about makeup, as I also don’t have anyone so into makeup that they’d want to talk about it. Your collection sounds very reasonable; if I didn’t have a blog, I’d probably have a similar amount of stuff. (Maybe not that many blushes, though I’d probably have that many highlighters if I had more space in my drawers!)
I’m currently trying to work through my blushes, bronzers, and highlighters as I’ve realized I don’t need that many colourful face products. I feel like whenever I’m creating makeup tutorials it’s always good to have a variety of eyeshadow and lip colour options, but there’s rarely any need for different blushes or bronzers as many of them look the same anyway. Ideally, I’d only have two or three shades of blush and highlighter, and one really good bronzer, so hopefully I’ll get there before I turn 30! ๐Ÿ˜€
How’s your Project Pan challenge going so far? ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Yes, your ideal numbers sound great. That was my goal for a really long time too, but recently I gave up on it and just accepted that I’m never going to have a small blush collection ๐Ÿ˜€

Your drawers also look nice. I keep my makeup collection in two decorative tins with the palettes stacked on top of them on my shelf. Plus a little basket for the everyday products I’m currently using on my desk.

I made a lot more progress this year in the project pan than I would have thought. The bronzer (Physicians Formula) has significant pan in it, I think it will definitely be gone by the end of the year.

I also have pan in my Catrice blush, but no pan in sight for the Clinique one. I’ve heard that those are notoriously hard to pan though. Do you ever get fustrated if you feel like you’ve been using a product forever and it doesn’t show any progress whatsoever?

I’m not much of a lipstick girl, I mostly just use chapstick. The two I have were both gifts with purchases, but I liked the color so I decided to keep them. I want to use up the liquid lipstick this year (as it goes bad faster) and then the bullet lipstick next year. And I won’t be buying any lipstick on my own.

These are also the the only non-powder products in my collection, I don’t really like liquid or cream products. Do you like your cream blush? How do you apply it? I always feel that cream products either blend away into nothing or just not as long lasting as any of my powder products.

        • Your setup sounds very nice and neat! If you are ever looking into other options, I highly recommend getting the MOPPE drawers from Ikea; they’re relatively cheap & can store anything from makeup to stationery to random bits that clutter the workspace!
As for panning progress, I’m feeling that type of frustration with the H&M palette. I’ve used the mattes so much that I should be seeing some pan, but there seems to be even more product to get through before that’ll happen.
Some years ago I shared a post on how I apply cream products, though in all fairness I don’t remember much of it so I might need to share an updated tutorial. I like cream products but definitely use powders more, and I don’t know if I’d buy another cream blush after using up this one.

          • Hi, sorry for bothering you, I just realized today that you haven’t posted in a while. I hope everything is OK ๐Ÿ™‚

          • You’re not bothering me at all! I think it’s sweet that you thought of me. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m ok, I just needed a break from blogging and all that to figure out life, but I am planning to start posting again very soon!
