SO MANY LOVED DRUGSTORE PRODUCTS // Makeup Drawer 09/21

Hey!

I really have to start sharing what’s inside my makeup drawers more often, otherwise I’ll continue posting these updates only once a year! Today I wanted to show y’all my go-to products, most of which are well-loved drugstore products I’d recommend any beauty lover. (As always, a full list of things I’m writing about in this post can be found down below!)

I spent too much time taking the products out of the drawer and putting them back in, so I decided to keep them in an organizer on top of the drawer unit. So far this system works better than expected, as the organizer also holds the majority of my makeup brushes and I can easily access anything I need!

By the way, if you like the content you see on my blog, check out my Instagram @xocaligo! I share lots of beauty and lifestyle photos, as well as some pretty nature shots and cute cat photos.

✨ eye makeup products ✨

My makeup routine centers around the eyes; I just love playing with different eyeshadows and glitters! Most of my eye makeup collection consists of well-loved drugstore products, since I’m always looking for a bargain. Can you relate?

I always start with applying some sort of an eyeshadow base to ensure my makeup stays on until the end of the day.

I depotted the Catrice makeup lightening drops into a tiny jar because I could no longer squeeze anything out of the squeezy tube. Since then, some of the water has evaporated from the product and made it feel twice as thick, which makes it the perfect eyeshadow base. That being said, sometimes I use the bronze cream shadow stick you can see in the photos, or any other liquid or cream eyeshadow; it really depends on the look I’m going for!

The massive H&M palette fulfills all of my basic eyeshadow needs, and I use it every time I do my makeup.

My current favourite eyeshadow from this palette is the dark red shimmer, which looks amazing beneath the Catrice gold glitter shadow. Sometimes I feel an urge to dip into other palettes, however, the H&M palette is the only one I use on a regular basis.

I was tired of my previous brow routine because right now I prefer natural brows that don’t take long to fill in.

For the past week or so I’ve been using nothing else but this Rival Loves Me brow gel and I really enjoy the results. My brows don’t feel crunchy or heavy, and the product stays in place until I take it off! (An in-depth review is coming soon, so stay tuned.)

Once I’m done applying eyeshadows, I always move on to eyeliner and mascara as I like to finish off the eyes before applying any face makeup.

Right now I’m trying to use up two pencil eyeliners, and I’ve discovered that they work well beneath eyeshadows. (My technique is to apply them along the upper lash line, then apply eyeshadow on top using a slanted eyebrow brush.) However, on days when I’m not in the mood for that sort of eyeliner, I use the Wycon liquid liner.

The last step of my eye makeup is to apply mascara, and I currently have two mascaras to choose from. The Gosh mascara is quite old so I’m trying to use it up before it begins irritating my eyes; once that’s done, I’ll start using the Rival Loves Me mascara!

✨ loved drugstore face products & some lipstick options ✨

I use quite a few face makeup products, though I always make sure that my skin doesn’t look too cakey or unnatural.

Most of the time the only face base product I use is concealer, though sometimes I enjoy mixing different products together to create my ideal foundation.

On days I must leave the house I use the Catrice concealer; otherwise I use a mix of the concealers from the Revolution palette. Sometimes I want to wear some foundation, so I mix one of the Revolution concealers, the L’Oreal highlighing drops, a very small amount of green colour corrector, and a pump or two of the L.A. Girl foundation lightener to create my ideal foundation. It looks amazing on my skin, and I have yet to experience any skin irritation or acne from using this product concoction!

The last three face products I use are included in my Project Pan challenge for 2021.

I really enjoy using all three of these products, though I rarely wear them together as I want to avoid looking like a Neapolitan ice cream. So far I’ve hit major pan in both the blush and the highlighter, and I will be sad to part with these products. The bronzer is good, too, though I feel like it is a bit too orange for my skin tone!

The final step of my makeup routine is to apply some sort of a lip product.

I change up my lip products quite often, though there are two loved drugstore products I keep nearby. The Wycon lipstick is a gorgeous deep caramel nude that looks great on those who have warm and olive undertones, while the MAC lipstick is the perfect red with blue undertones. I love both of the products so much I feel happy by simply looking at them!

#QOTD: What products do you keep in your daily makeup bag/drawer? Do you have any well-loved drugstore makeup products? Leave a comment, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Until later,

  1. You made great progress with the eyeshadow palette. I could never pan a palette, I’m always rotating them, but it’s inspiring to see one so obiviously used.

Do you think you can realistically finish the blush by the end of the year?

    • Thank you! I find it easy to pan certain shades like a matte cream or beige because I use them A LOT, but panning other shades is definitely a pain. My blusher technique involves a heavy-handed application and lots of blending until I love the way it looks, so I could technically use up this blush before the end of the year. The key is in consistency! 🙂

I remember you mentioned in the past that you are also participating in a Project Pan! If you don’t mind me asking, how is the challenge going for you? Have you panned or used up any products?

      • Oh, thank you for asking, I’m always happy to talk about my project pan 😀

I actually managed to finish my Physicians Formula bronzer, that was a big accomplishment for me.
I was also panning a Catrice defining blush, but I’m giving that one a bit of a break, because it is very peachy and that’s not really an everyday shade for me. I swapped it for a nude blush from Gosh.

        • Finishing a bronzer is no easy task, congratulations! Also, I totally get what you mean with being tired of some shades; at that point it’s best to switch stuff around, otherwise it’s easy to get tired of makeup altogether. How do you like Gosh blushes? I’ve looked at their products a lot, but they are so expensive and I wonder if they are worth it.

          • Honestly? I don’t think they’re worth it. I have the Gosh Natural Blush in Rose Whisper and it has the most kick up I’ve ever seen in a blush. I barely tap my brush into it, but I’m still surrounded by a cloud of powder. It’s only 5 gramms and I feel like I’m wasting half of it.

I got mine 50% off, so it’s not that bad, but I’d be pretty annoyed if I paid the full price for it. As for blending, staying power, etc, I feel like my Catrice and Essence blushes can do the same thing.

          • That blush sounds awful! Shame it costs so much and performs so badly. But at least it shouldn’t be hard to hit pan on! 😀
The only product I’ve tried is their Catchy Eyes mascara (also got it on sale) and while I like it, it’s not better than my fave Essence mascaras.
