COLOURFUL BEAUTY TRASH & DECLUTTER 2021 // Empties #12

Hey!

Last time I shared an empties post the ground was still covered in snow, how crazy is that? Today I wanted to share some thoughts the things I have used up since December, as well as share the results of my beauty declutter 2021. I’m also trying out a slightly different layout with a better text-to-photo ratio and more links to past posts, and I’d love to hear your thoughts on this post!

✨ makeup empties & declutter 2021 ✨

So far this year I’ve used up 8 makeup products and 2 perfume samples. I don’t have much to say about them, so if you have any questions about these products, don’t hesitate to leave them in a comment down below!

I depotted the eyeshadows and the cream products from the two squeezy tubes.

I hated the layout of the eyeshadow palette, and how the product would constantly detach from the pan and fall everywhere. I don’t usually press eyeshadows into other palettes, but this time I made an exception as I liked them well enough to keep. As for the squeezy tubes, I decided to depot the products into tiny jars to have an easier time using them. I know it can compromise the product since it was meant to be in an enclosed space, however, these two are almost used up and I don’t mind doing some experiments.

My declutter for 2021 includes the decluttering of all 9 lip products you can see in the photo, as they are too old to use and I wasn’t a huge fan of them in the first place.

The Baby Lips lip balms are too old and I don’t like their texture, while the other lip product colours didn’t look quite right with my skin tone. I almost used up the few nudes I had in there, but I can tell they have expired because they have lost their scents and the texture feels more waxy than before.

A flatlay of makeup empties and declutter 2021.

✨ hair care empties ✨

I used up a bottle of the Schwarzkopf Taft Silk Touch Ultra Hairspray but I won’t buy it again since it made my hair stiff and crunchy. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to use up the Isana Hair Colorglanz Hairspray because the sprayer stopped working halfway through the bottle!

Since the last empties post I have used up two more bottles of dry shampoo from Nivea and Batiste. Both are my long-time favourites, though nowadays I prefer Nivea because this product doesn’t feel as powdery and has a nicer scent. That being said, this particular Batiste shampoo is great for those who want to recreate Fran Fine’s hair volume on themselves.

Lastly, I’m throwing out two things that didn’t quite meet my expectations.

The first product is the Superdrug dry shampoo which I hoped would replace the favourites mentioned above, but I was thoroughly disappointed. It smells like scented toilet paper and made my hair look even less clean than before!

The other product is a hair makeup sample from L’Oreal that I got as a gift with purchase some time ago. The product smells good but doesn’t really work unless you have blond hair and enjoy the feeling of stiff, crusty hair.

✨ skin and body care + hygiene products ✨

Since the last empties post I have used up 9 products that fit into the skin and body care categories, some of which have been my favourites for a long time.

I have used up two skin care products from Himalaya Herbals, a Revitalizing Night Cream and an Anti-Wrinkle Cream. Although I like them both, I prefer the anti-wrinkle cream because it smells nice and makes a great base for makeup.

I’m throwing out three body care products: a foot cream, a body spray, and a glitter gel. I liked the first two products, but I couldn’t make myself use the glitter gel because, well… Glitter. Need I say more?

Last, but not least, I have used up Isana nail polish remover and Splat Sensitive toothpaste, as well as Old Spice Citron and Secret Delicate Scent antiperspirants. All of these products are long-standing favourites which I will buy again and again!

Note. Some products didn’t make it to my empties basket but rest assured, in nine months I used way more than one tube of toothpaste or two deodorant sticks!

#QOTD: Have you used any of these products? If so, what did you think of them? Leave a comment, let’s have a chat!

Until later,

  1. This was interesting. I was wondering if you were still going to post about beauty empties, and I’m glad you decided to do so. I’m still interested in that as well, so even if you’re only gonna post about empties/project pan once every 3 months, I’m going to read those posts 😀

I wanted to as about the Essence palette and the R de L blush. Did you like the palette? Those pan sizes were really strange 😃😃 What about the blush? I was eyeing it, but the formula wasn’t the best when I swatched it in store.

    • I haven’t used as much makeup & skin care products so there was little to share! 😀 I’ll try to post an update on my Project Pan challenge this week, though I haven’t really made the kind of progress one should brag about. But I’m happy to hear that you’ll read my posts whenever they happen, and thankful for your continuous support! 🙂

To answer your questions about the Essence palette, I must admit I have mixed feelings towards it. The shadow formula was a bit more powdery than usual but I liked the colours and how they performed. The problem lays in the pan shapes and sizes; I couldn’t use most of them without dipping into the other pans, and many of the eyeshadows fell out soon after I got the damn thing! 😀 (I think they messed up the shadow formula by making it too soft, then couldn’t press the product inside the weirdly shaped pans as tightly as they should.) I was able to salvage most of the shades and repress them into other palettes so hopefully I’ll be able to use them. Lovely colours, decent performance, horrible pan shapes!

The blush definitely felt powdery and chalky but I enjoyed using it. I apply most powders with a heavy hand so I prefer products that aren’t as pigmented and offer some wiggle room. This particular shade (03 pink) was great for a blush contour & that e-girl look where they put blush on the temples and nose, too. That being said, I feel like you can get a similar effect from Essence, Catrice, and other drugstore brand’s blushes!
