Hey!

Finding good quality face products can be a challenge for anyone but it can be especially hard for those of us who have tight budgets. Since makeup prices continue going up, I’m always on a lookout for affordable drugstore gems I could talk about with y’all here on my blog! On one of these shopping adventures I bought these Rival de Loop Natural Lift products; since I’ve used them for the past couple of months, I feel ready to share my thoughts.

➕

  • Applies well with sponges, brushes, and fingertips. I prefer to apply this foundation with a damp sponge to ensure that there are no brush streaks.
  • This foundation has buildable coverage and a glowy, yet natural finish. One pump of product blended into your skin with a damp sponge will lightly even out the skin tone. Two or three pumps of foundation offer medium to high coverage without making your face look like an unnatural mask.
  • The product settles into skin within a few minutes, though it never fully dries down. (I haven’t noticed any product transfer on my clothes.)
  • The product doesn’t feel tacky or oily after settling in the skin. My face looks a tad oily ~4 hours after initial application, though it can be fixed by applying more powder.
  • This foundation feels more comfortable on the skin than many other products I’ve used in the past.
  • Most colourful face powders blend out beautifully on top of this product, even if I have not used any setting powders beforehand.
  • During the day the product doesn’t look patchy, dry or cakey at any point, and it doesn’t break down on the oily parts of my face. The foundation can look streaky if you apply it with a brush, but you can easily fix that by patting a damp sponge on the affected area.
  • When used on its own, the foundation will look the same as it did during application for ~5-8 hours; after that, you might feel the need to use some powder or concealer. If you were to powder it down right after application, it’ll last for ~8-12 hours before you’ll need to use more powder. (Of course, the weartime depends on the weather, your activity levels, temperature, and other variables. My daily life is quite sedentary and the weather in October is cold and windy, so take my review with a grain of salt.)

➖

  • This foundation comes in only four shades for light-ish to medium skin tones, and it tends to oxidize a shade or two deeper than the way it looks when you first apply it. I used this product by itself for review purposes, however, if I wanted to use it every day I’d have to mix it with a foundation lightener.
  • From what I’ve seen, all of the foundation shades have a pink undertone.
  • The product has a strong, floral scent that doesn’t disappear. I am able to feel this scent even three hours after application!
  • Although the foundation itself doesn’t look patchy or dry, it may ephasize any pores and dry patches you have on your skin.
  • The foundation can be rubbed off quite easily unless you set it with powder.
  • As far as I can tell, this product may not be available world-wide. I found mine in Drogas, which is a Latvian/Lithuanian store chain. (Leave a comment if you know whether people can find this brand in your country!)

The product comes in a heavy glass bottle with a lovely pump and a clear plastic cap.

One of the first things I noticed is the overwhelming floral scent, which doesn’t ever fully disappear. However, once I applied the foundation on my skin, I thoroughly enjoyed the way it looked!

So far I haven’t had any problems with skin irritation or breakouts caused by this foundation.

I can imagine how the scent could cause a migrane, however, I can ignore it as I don’t use foundation every day. As much as I enjoy using this product, I don’t know if I can fully reccomend it; I think you should read the pros and cons I listed above and make your own decision!

Rival de Loop Natural Lift Compact Powder

➕

  • The product feels silky smooth and is not chalky or powdery. It is a little dusty, however that doesn’t affect my makeup routine in any way.
  • After the application my skin feels as smooth as a velvet cushion.
  • The product gives a natural matte finish which doesn’t look flat as a pancake.
  • Smooths out most pores and fine lines I have in my skin.
  • It looks fine for the first 2-8 hours depending on your activity levels, weather, and how much you touch your face. It can be easily reapplied without looking heavy or cakey.
  • There’s a handy compartment underneath the product which stores a sponge and a pretty decent mirror. The sponge works well, though I prefer using a fluffy kabuki brush!

➖

  • While this doesn’t affect me personally, I have to mention that this powder has a light, yet fleeting caramel/toffee scent.
  • The powder comes in only four shades for light to medium skin tones.
  • Even though the powder blurs some of the fine lines, it is prone to collecting in the creases of my face. It also highlights any dry patches just enough to make my skin look mouldy…
  • Depending on how much product you use, it can look a bit cakey. I recommend applying a light layer of this product only on the oily parts of your face!
  • This product doesn’t oxidise by itself, however, it can deepen the colour of the foundation or concealer you are using.

The plastic packaging of the powder is quite bulky, though it is also sturdy enough to survive a few falls to the floor. My favourite part of this product is the little compartment below the powder with a mirror and a sponge, as it could be a helpful hiding place for money or other items!

I’ve tried using this powder in on top of bare skin, foundation and/or concealer, and it works wonderfully every time. So far it hasn’t irritated my skin or caused breakouts, and the scent has not caused any migranes. This product might be my favourite of the two things I reviewed today, and I would recommend it to anyone who can find a shade that fits them!

From left to right: foundation by itself and foundation with the powder on top. I didn’t include any swatches of the powder by itself because it looks transparent on my skin.
