SOME UPDATES // Ultimate Challenge Update #1

Hey!

Today I wanted to share some updates on my Project Pan 2022 products and the books I’ve read in February. Next month’s update will be more exciting, so stay tuned for the first week of April!

This update may be a bit disappointing as I won’t be including some things as I did last time, like a new monthly challenge, bonus content, or anything besides makeup & reading updates. Honestly, I’ve been tired, busy with other work-related things, and constantly checking up on the war in Ukraine. The next post I’ll share will include ways & resources on how to help Ukraine. It isn’t too late to help Ukraine and Ukrainians, as the war will probably last a while longer, and the humanitarian crisis isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. For now, all I’m saying is that I stand with Ukraine and you should, too.

✨ pan those palettes 2022 ✨

Revolution Redemption Palette “Mermaids vs Unicorns”

start: 106g // goal: pan four shades

update #1: 105g

Last month I didn’t make a huge difference, though I can see a crater at the bottom part of the aquamarine shade. These eyeshadows are highly pigmented, and they are hard to use up as they are not chalky or dusty.

Thankfully I have started wearing blue and green shimmers on the inner parts of my eyes nearly every time I do my makeup. I already have poofy hair and tortoiseshell glasses, so I might as well apply blue eyeshadow and become my true self – a 1980s grandma!

Revolution Ultra Professional Eyeshadow “Flawless”

start: 205g // goal: use up half of palette

After hitting pan in a few shades, I realized how shallow these shadows are and how easy they’ll be to use up! Currently, I’m using the two matte medium brown shades from the first column as eyebrow powders. Other shades make a good base for the colourful shades from the Mermaid palette.

✨ project pan 2022 ✨

Catrice Liquid Metal eyeshadow in 060 Petrol Pan

start: 27g // goal: hit pan

Initially, I thought this eyeshadow could work as an eyeliner, but it’s too light. (Unless I’m not using any other eyeshadows.) I love how it looks along the lower lashline and as an outer corner shade, so I’ll try to use it that way.

Rival de Loop Bronzing Powder in 01 Salted Caramel

start: 37g // goal: use it up

I haven’t used this bronzer all that much, though I will use it more once the sun comes out to play!

Revolution Ultra Professional Blush Palette in Golden Sugar

start: 112g // goal: pan half of palette

I’ve grown to appreciate glowy blushes and playing with colours I wouldn’t normally use because of my skin tone. I’ve also realized how much I love face powder palettes; going forward, I might buy palettes instead!

Wjcon (Wycon) Soft Blush N.02

start: 80g // goal: pan half of palette

I think this product will go bad sometime this year, so I want to use it up as quickly as possible. I haven’t tried using it beneath powder blushes, but could be a good way to use it up!

H&M nail polish in “u-taupe-ia”

start: 44g / 18mm // goal: use up half

I didn’t make any progress, though I did paint my nails once or twice, and the line has dropped maybe one millimetre. I might start doing my toenails, too, though this colour could look odd since it’s the exact colour of mud.

Essence Soft Contouring Lipliner 02 Nude Painting & 08 Big Proposal

start: 02 = 51mm, 08 = 69mm // goal: use them up

02 (beige) update #1: 50mm

08 (pink) update #1: 68mm

Both these lip liners used together make the prettiest peachy nude colour! I’ve been using them often, especially the browny beige nude as it fits my natural lip colour and compliments my skin tone.

random thin and thick red lipliners

start: thin = 37mm, thick = 52mm // goal: use them up

thin liner update #1: 31mm

thick liner update #1: 50mm

I haven’t used these lip liners more than a few times, though I’ll try to use them during summer as I’ll probably wear contacts more often. I’d like to think I look like Ghoulia Yelps when I wear red lipstick and glasses at the same time, but I feel more like Roz from Monsters Inc!

Catrice Kohl Kajal in 240 My Dream of Caribbean

start: 93mm // goal: use it up

update #1: 91mm

I haven’t used this pencil as a base for eyeshadow yet, though I like applying it as an eyeliner and patting dark eyeshadow on top.

M.A.C. Satin lipstick in M.A.C. Red

start: 19g / 12mm // goal: use it up

This shade of red is gorgeous and complements my skin tone well, so I want to use this lipstick up before it goes bad. Once I restock on my contact lenses, I’ll wear red lipstick almost every time I’ll leave the house!

Artdeco Lip Brilliance lipgloss in 03

start: 26g / 43mm // goal: use it up

update #1: 25g

I’ve been keeping this lip gloss by the PC and using it daily as a lip balm. I wouldn’t wear highly pigmented bright red lip gloss outside as it’d get all over my face, but I don’t mind wearing it at home!

L’Oréal Color Riche lipstick in Doutzen’s red

start: 21g / 13mm // goal: use it up

I haven’t used the bright orange lipstick on its own as I don’t wear bright colours in my everyday life. However, I have tried mixing it with a nude lippie I don’t like it and it looks great! I have considered melting down the two lipsticks in an empty container so I could take it on the go, but I fear the nude lipstick is on its last legs.

✨ two-person book club ✨

In February, I read one book and got halfway through another one. I’ve been busy with work, life, spring fatigue, and the stuff happening in the world, so I haven’t had much energy to read. I will try to make time for reading in April, though!

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

by J.K. Rowling // 435 pages

In the third book, Harry discovers more about his parent’s past, learns new useful spells, fights off Dementors, and goes on adventures on the school grounds. While this is the only book in which he doesn’t directly encounter Voldemort, he meets the Dark Lord’s most-loyal supporter and strongest opposers.

It’s one of my favourite Harry Potter books and movies, so it was fun to read it once more. It was also a calming thing to read before bed!

♦ books I’m reading right now ♦

The two books I’m reading right now are Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling, as well as Villette by Charlotte Brontë. Both of them are the “official” March book club picks. I’m also trying to finish The Red Scrolls of Magic by Cassandra Clare and Wesley Chu, but I haven’t had much time or energy to read.

Last month a lovely follower and now Internet friend Ralynna reached out and asked if she could join the one-person-bookclub! So, starting with the next update, she’ll join my bookclub segment and share her thoughts on the books we’re both reading that month. I’ve also decided to post the next bookclub updates as separate posts to share proper reviews. That being said, I’ll keep this part in my challenge posts the same way as I do now. If you want to join my book club, write to me at xocaligo@gmail.com!

✨ 30 day challenge ✨

Last month my goal was to go on a walk every day of February. I wanted to improve my mental and physical health and see if I could build good long-lasting habits!

Overall, my last month’s challenge went well, and I’m excited to see what I can accomplish next. I don’t have a challenge for March as I’m swamped with other work, though I’ll devise a cool challenge for April.

february challenge results

Last month I decided to take a walk every day to get more energy, explore the city and have a reason to air out my head of whatever’s bothering me that day. Walks have always been my preferred way of exercise as nothing else I’ve tried is as cheap and easy to do every day!

During February, I went out every day for a short or long walk. Most walks lasted at least 40-60 minutes, which was quite impressive! On days when I went grocery shopping (like once or twice a week), I counted the grocery trips as walks. Sometimes I walked back and forth from a shop that’s further away! (And some days, I didn’t have the time or energy to go on multiple walks.)

I’ve continued this habit in March, though I’m not as strict right now. I’ve skipped a few days and instead went on a few longer walks further away some days later. I love this habit, and I want to continue doing it as long as I can walk!

Now I can go on 5-6 km long walks; I might be pooped at the end, but I don’t feel long-term exhaustion or body aches. In February, I either sat wrong, stumbled during a walk, or injured myself in some other way, and I had pains in my left hip joint. It’s still a bit sore, and I can’t yet move like Mick Jagger, but the pain is mostly gone; I attribute most of the healing to medicines I was taking, vitamins for joints, and the daily walks!

Another benefit I have is stronger lungs and not getting winded pretty much ever. I suspect I might’ve gotten the infamous virus at some point. My lungs and body haven’t felt the same since, but the daily exercise hour has helped a ton, even though I live in a pretty polluted city.

#QOTD: Does it look like spring where you’re at? The weather is definitely changing here in Latvia, and my cats are shedding like crazy!

Until later,

  1. I think you made a pretty respectable amount of progress this month. More than I did in my own Project Pan, that’s for sure 😄 The Revolution “Flawless” palette looks like pretty good everyday palette, and if the pans are shallow you’ll be able to use up quite a few of them by the end of the year. Are you planning on panning the entire palette eventually?

Regarding the cream blush, how do you know if it’s gone bad? I mostly use powder products, which last a lot longer, so I always struggle with cream and liquid products. Right now I’m eyeing a face oil – the scent has changed, so I don’t want to put it on my face, but I’m not sure if I can use it up on my body, or if I should throw it out.

Congrats on meeting your walking challange! Every day, wow. I try to walk instead of taking the bus if I’m running errands close by, like going shopping or to the pharmacy or the post office. So I walk like 4 times per week, but I don’t think I can convince myself to do it more often currently.

Hope your hip gets better and heals up completely!

    • Thank you so much, I appreciate your support!
I don’t know if I’ll try panning the whole palette since there are some shades I don’t really see myself using. (Like some of the cooler tones – those types of shades don’t suit me whatsoever!) However, I like this palette a lot, especially the middle metallic shimmers, but I wish there were a few more lighter mattes.

With cream/liqid products it’s quite easy to tell if something’s going bad: the product changes in appearance, texture, smell, and just generally feels off. Like with this blush, I can feel it’s blending just a bit differently but it’s still good enough to use. If the product smells differently, it probably has gone bad, and the same can be said if a previously perfumed product suddenly loses all scent (and you don’t have The Virus). If you choose to use that face oil, I suggest using it as a foot cream since the skin there isn’t usually as sensitive. (At least that’s what my late grandpa used to do, and I sometimes continue the tradition with shady face creams.)

I used to go on daily walks with my doggo, but since his passing I fell of the wagon. Now I go on walks with my mum as we both need the exercise and it’s also much safer to walk at night when you’re not alone. Right now most days we walk 5-6 km for at least an hour, but some days we go for shorter 20min walks!

Thank you for the well-wishes! My hip feels a lot better, so hopefully I’ll be in tip-top shape by the time summer arrives.
